FAQ – Starting

What’s the WoD?

  • WoD stands for Workout of the Day. Each day there is a specific programmed workout designed to elicit a certain training response. Typically you’ll come in to class, go through a warmup, then our trainers will teach a series of skill practice and drills, then everyone will perform the WoD together. The group atmosphere provides a combination of support and competitiveness that is inspirational and produces spectacular results.

Don’t I need to be in good shape to do CrossFit?

  • No, anyone can do CrossFit. We have experienced coaches on hand to scale each exercise to your ability level. People of all ages and fitness levels can benefit from the program. Sometimes people fear they need to get in shape before beginning the program, but it’s been our experience that results happen much more quickly and consistently with our group classes, regardless of starting abilities. The best way to get ready for CrossFit is to CrossFit.
  • We have Foundations classes for people just starting out to teach you the basics and gradually bring you up to speed. Our coaches are there to ensure the workouts are adjusted to your capabilities.

I have an injury. Can I do CrossFit?

  • Absolutely. We can scale or substitute exercises to work around injuries. The best way to rehabilitate an injury is to learn good form on functional movements, then to slowly build strength in those movements, rather than to avoid them altogether. We are not Doctors though, so you need to inform us of your comfort levels with various exercises, and seek advice from your physician before beginning any exercise program.

How do I get Started?

  • If you’re an experienced CrossFit athlete, you may be able to jump right into our regular classes based on an evaluation from our coaches.
  • Most people will need to go through our intro program, which is a three class private introduction to CrossFit and an evaluation of your abilities and needs. After the three private classes, members move into either our beginner classes or regular Workout of the Day classes.
